Exciting Winter Activities in NYC

Just because winter is here doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. Get out and discover winter activities in NYC that will brighten up the shortest days of the year.

Liven Up Your Winter with New York City Activities

Central Park Winter Jam

A snow day in Central Park is coming up on Saturday, January 28, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Central Park Winter Jam. Take part in winter sports including sledding, ice skating, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and more. The event hub will be at the Central Park Bandshell; admission and equipment rental is free.

Best Places to Ice Skate

If you’re looking for things to do in NYC on a drab winter day, there are plenty of excellent places to hit the ice and practice your spins. In Central Park, visit Wollman Rink (skate rentals are $8, plus admission), or head to Prospect Park to skate at the LeFrak Center (admission is $6 on weekdays, $9 on weekends).

For year-round skating, try the Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers for $10 admission, or go to Floyd Bennett Field and skate for $11.

Beer, Bourbon & BBQ Festival

Held at The Tunnel in Manhattan on January 28, the Beer, Bourbon & BBQ Festival will feature over 60 beers, 40 bourbons, and a lot of barbeque, including cuts from whole roast pigs. An admission ticket gets you a sampling glass so you can taste as many drink varieties as you want. Tickets to various sessions range from $109-229 per person.

Chinese New Year Parade

The Chinese Lunar New Year Parade will happen in Manhattan Chinatown on Sunday, February 5. Kick-off will start at 1 p.m. and the parade will end at Sara D. Roosevelt Park. Get ready for colorful costumes, Chinese dragons, firecrackers, performers, floats, and music.
